Theme of the Week: God’s Plan in Four Verbs
Bible Verse: Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6 NIV
Scripture Reading: Romans 8:28, Psalm 33:11, Psalm 32:8
King David is one of my favorite leaders to read about. I love that there is so much recorded about his life in the Bible; the good, the bad, and the ugly. This week we will read about some of his life, and hopefully, through David’s life, we can see how God works in us today.
More on that tomorrow… But first, we all need to agree on two foundational things found in today’s key verse:
- We must believe that God has a plan for our lives.
- We must acknowledge that God’s plan for us requires our trust.
Many scriptures support that God has a unique plan for each of us. It’s designed perfectly for each individual, and it’s better than anything we could do on our own. We are also cautioned in the Bible about the dangers of what can happen when we take control of our lives and don’t allow God to lead.
Believing God has a plan is the first step. But trusting that His plan is best is where our faith gets tested. By the way, if we read the verses carefully, we discover that our trust is not supposed to be a partial trust but one that requires our whole heart.
Trust is such an integral part of following Jesus. So, as you think about his plan for you today and this week, my prayer for you comes from the lyrics of a great hymn, ‘Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus.’ The last line simply says, “oh for grace to trust you more.”
Prayer: God, give me grace to trust you more with our whole hearts. I believe you know best. I believe you have a plan for me. May you give me the strength to obey.
