Bible Passage: “Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:7 NIV)
Scripture Reading: Hebrews 4:14-16
One of the greatest privileges you have as a son of God is to draw close to Him with confidence.
You can come before His mighty, loving, holy presence at any moment, no matter what you’re going through.
You can call upon the Creator and Sustainer of all life and know that He hears you and cares deeply for you.
You don’t need to make an appointment or impress Him. You don’t need the right words or to get yourself together first. Because of Jesus, the door is open, and your heavenly Father invites you to come boldly and often.
And yet, even with such a great opportunity, prayer is often the thing we neglect the most.
Men get used to carrying things. We carry responsibilities and expectations. We bear financial pressures and shoulder family problems. There are important decisions to be made, other people depend on us, and these burdens tend to produce stress that we rarely say out loud.
Somewhere along the way, we believed the lie that everything depends on us. This is the farthest thing from biblical truth.
We are not creators, but stewards. The Lord alone holds all life in his hands (us included); we just get the opportunity to partner with Him in what He’s doing.
Think about that. The God who spoke galaxies into existence invites you to speak to Him.
The God who holds all things together listens when you tell Him you’re afraid.
He welcomes you when you’re exhausted and feel like you can’t carry on.
He hears you when you’re confused or frustrated.
He receives you when you’ve failed and are full of shame.
The devil is a liar who would have you think that God either doesn’t want to hear from you or that God isn’t mighty enough to help you. Do not listen to such nonsense. Think of all the Lord has done so that you could run to Him.
You were never meant to carry everything alone. The beauty and power of prayer are in the approach, into the presence of God.
So tell Him what hurts and what scares you. Be honest about what you can’t fix. Pray until the burden is placed in stronger hands. Pray when you feel strong, and pray when you can barely get the words out.
Prayer, my dear brothers, reminds us that we don’t have to carry burdens alone.
Prayer: Father, forgive me for carrying burdens You have invited me to bring to You. Please teach me to run to Your presence before I run anywhere else. When I can’t change what’s going on in my life, give me the grace to trust that You are with me and that Your mighty hands hold me. Amen.
Reflection: What are you carrying today that you have spent more time worrying about than praying about? Take some time to offer it up to God today.
