A Different Approach To Change

Theme of the Week: Change Beyond Resolutions

Bible Verse: “We all, with unveiled faces, are looking as in a mirror at, the glory of the Lord and are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory; this is from the Lord who is the Spirit.” 2 Corinthians 3:18

Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 3:7-18

Confession: I don’t enjoy this time of year. I miss the long days and warmth of summer. I know some of you like winter, but I’d take a pass if I could.

But I love the New Year. I love the opportunity that it gives us to think about making a fresh start. Of course, January is just another month like all the others, but it gives us an opportunity to reflect on the past and to think about the future.

How can we take advantage of this opportunity to reflect and make a new beginning?

A few years ago, I grew cynical about trying to change at the start of a New Year. I kept setting new goals, but nothing seemed to work. I eventually gave up.

Not anymore. I realize I was going about things in the wrong way. I was just doing the same thing that everyone else did: setting new resolutions, and relying on my own strength. I needed an outside power to change, which is exactly what God has provided for us.

The Spirit promises that he will transform us. It may take place slowly, but he always gets the job done.
