Bible Passage: “But the angel said to them, ‘Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.’” (Luke 2:10 NIV)
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:1-21
Over the last few days, we have explored the Nativity, and I hope you have viewed it in a new light.
It is a huge moment for our faith and for the whole world.
It was hinted at in the Garden of Eden (Genesis 3:15).
It was promised to Abraham (Genesis 12:3).
It was prophesied by Isaiah (Isaiah 7:14).
It was heralded by angels (Luke 2:9-14).
It was witnessed by shepherds (Luke 2:16).
It was sought after by magi from the East (Matthew 2:2).
And it was lived by a carpenter and his young wife (Luke 2:6-7).
It turned the calendar from B.C. to A.D.
It has caused lives to change and movements to happen for 2000 years.
And yet, despite all of this, it is mentioned only two times in the entire New Testament.
Why is that?
Because it is only one piece of God’s full redemption story.
You see, the Nativity led to a baptism. The baptism led to a desert. The desert led to discipleship. Discipleship led to the Cross. The Cross led to the empty grave. And the empty grave led to the Church.
As we move on from the Nativity, let us remember that we are men who are called to carry the purpose of the Nativity beyond a seasonal celebration.
In other words, let’s be men who live our faith in such a way that the meaning of the Nativity impacts our lives the other 11 months of the year, too.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You for choosing me. Help me to follow You all year. Amen.
Reflection: What is one way you would like to follow Jesus better this next year? Share it with a friend who will pray for you and encourage you in your walk.
