Accurate Predictions

Theme of the Week: Uniqueness of Christmas

Bible Verse: “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6

Scripture Reading: Isaiah 9:1-7

The world is filled with armchair prophets, each one wanting to stake his claim to fame by announcing beforehand what will transpire. Some have come up with pretty good ideas. All of them, unfortunately, at some point have missed the mark by a mile.

Wouldn’t it be amazing to find someone who could make predictions with a perfect track record? “Impossible!” you say? Not so fast.

There is a best-seller on the market that gathers over 200 predictions from 30 different writers spanning 2000 years of human history. All of these predictions point to the life of one individual and all of them were 100% accurate. Now that is pushing the odds!

A mathematician, wanting to check the odds of such a thing happening took just seven of the most well-known predictions dealing with the individual’s place of birth, family line, occupation, date and means of death, et cetera. He fed these into a computer and asked what the odds were of these seven predictions actually being fulfilled in the life of one individual. The answer? 1 in 10 to the 23rd power.

To give an idea of what those odds are like, imagine the entire state of Texas covered in silver dollars one foot deep. Paint one coin red, place it somewhere in the coins piled all over Texas, blindfold someone and have them correctly pick the red coin from all the others. That’s the odds of these seven predictions coming true.

But there were over 200 such predictions, all of them true. The odds on that are beyond our comprehension. They surpass the impossible.

But they weren’t too big of a hurdle for God. He was the one who made those predictions. He was the one who, repeatedly throughout history, told about His coming to earth in human form. It was such a mind-boggling idea, such an odds-shattering event that, when it actually happened it changed the course of human history and altered eternity.

All those incredible predictions pointed to the birth, life, death, resurrection and return of Jesus Christ.

As we approach Christmas this year, I invite you to pick up the Bible and read about the most incredible life in human history. Even those who do not profess to be Christians acknowledge the uniqueness of Jesus Christ. After all, do you know anyone else whose life is backed up with over 200 impossible but accurate predictions?

Check it out. But as you do, be careful. What you read is so unique, so odds-defying, that it could also be life-changing. Will this Christmas season be a good one for you? If you take time to check out the Christ of Christmas, the odds are definitely in your favor.
