Christ’s Presence Through It All

In Daily Devotional by Tim Bergmann

Theme of the Week: Everything We Need for a Godly Life

Bible Verse: Consequently, you are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. Ephesians 2:19-20

In our longing to live godly lives, there is a lot of obstacles that we will encounter. It can be a hard journey at times. One of the greatest gifts we have is the presence of Jesus through it all. He promised that He would never leave us nor forsake us.

One of the names of Jesus is Immanuel, which means “God with us”. It is probably my favorite name. I don’t know where I’d be without His continual presence. All I have to do is reach out and He is there to remind me of His nearness.

I used to work at a church that had a very old building. In the back of this building was a dark staircase. It would have been ideal for a horror movie. When my firstborn son was only three or four, he had it in his mind that he wanted to go up that stairway. I followed him to that dingy back corner, and he stood there staring at the daunting challenge. I could see his little brain working. He wanted to climb the steps, but he was terrified of what might happen if he did. Finally, he reached up for my hand and said, “C’mon dad”. And the two of us climbed those stairs together. When his hand was in my hand, there was no hesitation on his part. All his fears were gone because I was there with him.

There is no place you can go where Christ will not be with you. You can move forward with confidence and bravery. Why? Because greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. And Jesus will never, ever leave our side.

Hold fast to Him and step out into the night.
