Hope Rooted in God’s Promises

In Daily Devotional by Kirk Giles

Bible Passage: “Lord, you are my God; I will exalt you. I will praise your name, for you have accomplished wonders, plans formed long ago with perfect faithfulness.” (Isaiah 25:1 CSB)

Scripture Reading: Micah 5:2; Luke 2:1-20

What you put your hope in is going to determine the quality of the hope you experience.

When you feel the sting of disappointment in life, it is a direct reflection of what you have put your hope in.

The Bible teaches us that God accomplishes plans formed long ago with perfect faithfulness.

Stop and think about that!

When I was a teenager, I had plans for my life, but twenty or thirty years later, I can only recall the overarching idea behind those plans—not all the details. Life comes at us fast, and maintaining perfect follow-through on your plans is not easy. The more time that passes since your plan hasn’t happened, the easier it is to forget some things.

But then there’s God.

Every plan He makes, He executes with perfect faithfulness. There is no detail lost to Him, and no person or circumstance is going to get in the way of His plans being accomplished.

We see this happen yet again in the Christmas story of Luke chapter 2.

Seven hundred years before Jesus was born, the prophet Micah prophesied that a ruler would come from Bethlehem to reign over Israel.

Seven hundred years—and God did not forget His plan.

Bethlehem—a small village that would never naturally be part of anyone’s grand plan to save anything, never mind the whole world.

And God did not forget His plan.

Plans formed long ago, God follows through in carrying out every single detail.

Gentlemen, God alone is worth putting your hope in because God alone will fulfill with perfect faithfulness every promise He’s ever made.

Prayer: Lord, increase my trust in You as the only one who will fulfill every promise. Begin to strengthen my hope again. Amen.

Reflection: What promises have you seen God fulfill in your life to this point?
