Bible Passage: “Jesus answered, ‘I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.’” (John 14:6)
Scripture Reading: John 14:1-14
I used to work for a real estate sign company in Calgary, AB. My job was to travel all over the city (and surrounding areas) to install “For Sale” signs on listed properties.
It was a great job; it gave me lots of time to be alone and enjoy seeing the city and surrounding countryside.
Google Maps was supposed to be a man’s best friend in those days. I would put in an address, and the gentle Google voice would lead me straight to my destination.
Well, at least that was how it was supposed to work. Sometimes, it wasn’t quite so simple.
If I had to go to a new housing development in the city (in which—surprise!—they were trying to sell a lot of houses there at the time), the map software might not be up to date. The worst was when the address was out in the country. I would drive for a while, following all the instructions with faithful obedience, only to end up in the middle of nowhere with no houses to be seen for miles.
Eventually, with some help from the home office, I would be redirected to a completely different location and finally be able to find the house.
A lot of people are going through life listening to the directions of the world, hoping it will lead them to their “happily ever after.”
At the Last Supper, the disciples were confused when Jesus said that He would be going away to prepare a place for them and that they would follow Him on the way.
Thomas asked, “Lord, we don’t know where you are going, so how can we know the way?” (John 14:5)
Jesus answered confidently by saying He was the Way, the Truth, and the Life (v.6).
Basically, He was saying, “Don’t worry about anything besides staying connected to Me. If you stay connected to Me, you will arrive safe.”
Jesus is the way, the only way, to eternal life. Everything else will lead a man astray. You can’t trust anything else. Jesus is 100% trustworthy; He will lead you home!
Prayer: Lord Jesus, You have made a way for me to have eternal life. Thank You for Your sacrifice, Your leadership, and Your love. Help me to stay connected to You at all times. Amen.
Reflection: When are you most likely to be enticed by another voice telling you it is the way to “real life”? What can you do to ensure that you always stay connected to Jesus and listen to His voice alone?
