It’s God Who Changes Us

Theme of the Week: Change Beyond Resolutions

Bible Verse: “For it is God who is working in you both to will and to work according to his good purpose.” Philippians 2:13

Scripture Reading: Philippians 2:12-18

You enter your car. You turn the key. Nothing happens. The battery is dead.

The good news: somebody notices that you’re stuck. They ask if you need help. It turns out they have jumper cables in the back. They give you a boost, and you drive off.

When it comes to changing ourselves, we’re as powerless as that car with a dead battery. We can’t bring about the change we need in our own lives. Thousands of years of history, and decades of living in our own skin, have proven the limits of our abilities to improve ourselves.

We need outside help. Paul says that it’s God who works in us to change both our desires and our actions.

What does this mean?

As we work out our salvation with fear and trembling, we can be encouraged. We’re not alone. God himself has promised his power to change us. God’s power is enough to transform the most resistant heart.

Don’t give up! Every time you get stuck, ask for God’s help. He has promised to transform and renew us; our job is to respond to his help.

Remember that you’re not alone. God’s promised his divine power. He always gets the job done.
