Longing for Jesus to Return

In Daily Devotional by Darryl Dash

Bible Verse: “There is reserved for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will give me on that day, and not only to me but to all those who have loved his appearing.” (2 Timothy 4:8)

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 4:1-8

We’ve just scratched the surface.

Our future doesn’t need to be fuzzy. In fact, it’s glorious. We will live in resurrected bodies on a renewed earth. Everything that’s wrong with this world will be banished. Everything that’s right will be perfected.

Best of all, we’ll live in the presence of God Himself. We’ll discover that the greatest joy of eternity will be the presence of God, which will deeply satisfy our souls.

So why don’t we look forward to it?

God made us to long for this new creation. It’s okay to enjoy the blessings God has given us now (Ecclesiastes 11:7-10)—wives, kids, friendships, jobs, hobbies, vacations, and more.

Just don’t forget that something better is coming.

Long for that day and all that you will enjoy. Most of all, long for the presence of God Himself. You will see Him and enjoy Him forever.

Join with the prayer that concludes the book of Revelation:

“The Spirit and the Bride say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who hears say, ‘Come.’ And let the one who is thirsty come; let the one who desires take the water of life without price.” (Revelation 22:17)

I can’t wait for that day.

Prayer: “Come, Lord Jesus!” (Revelation 22:20)

Reflection: How can you increase your longing for that day?
