Bible Verse: “Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.” (Colossians 3:23 ESV)
Scripture Reading: Colossians 3:22-25
This past week, we have covered many of the crucial “hats” or roles that Christian men put on throughout their lives and how to diligently pursue each one biblically with excellence.
We have seen that a godly man must honor his parents and be willing to be there as a brother in the Body of Christ. If he is married, a godly man must seek to love his wife like Christ loves the Church. If he has been blessed with children, a father must set the bar by being a living example of a dedicated leader in Christ. Men in Christ must be diligent about serving in various capacities, spreading the Good News about Christ, and making sure newer believers are trained up in the faith.
Lastly, let’s look at our professions in life.
Whether we are an employee of someone else’s company or run our own business, our work is an opportunity to glorify God. By laboring diligently and with integrity, we reflect Christ in our workplace. Whether our job is big or small, we should approach it with a heart that seeks to honor God. Let’s strive to be workers who give our best, knowing that our ultimate reward comes from the Lord.
Working with excellence means being honest, reliable, and dedicated to our tasks. It involves seeking true integrity—which means doing our best even when no one is watching because we are ultimately working for the Lord.
This attitude not only honors God but also sets a positive example for our colleagues.
One practical way to work with excellence is to maintain a positive attitude and be a source of encouragement to others. Our words and actions should reflect our faith, demonstrating kindness, patience, and a willingness to go the extra mile.
Some of you may feel like you are “stuck” in dead-end jobs doing menial work, while others may have what is close to their “dream” job. Whatever your work situation is, men, I encourage you to seek joy in all you do and show daily gratitude to God for your employment.
Another important aspect is setting boundaries and balancing work with rest. Recognizing that our strength comes from God and taking time to rest and recharge ensures we can continue serving Him effectively in our work.
By embracing these roles we have explored this week with a heart focused on God, we can become complete men in Christ.
Let’s commit to continuing this journey, seeking the Holy Spirit’s guidance and strength in all we do.
Prayer: Father, help me to work with all my heart as if I am working for You. Give me the strength and integrity to do my job well and be a light in my workplace. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
Reflection: How can you improve your work ethic to reflect Christ in your job better? What changes can you make to work more heartily for the Lord?
