Bible Passage: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 4:10-11)
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:1-13:13
Beyond the standard “gift lists” of Scripture that we have already looked at this week are a variety of other gifts scattered throughout the Bible. Here are a few of them:
Administration: The gifting to organize and execute the practical side of ministry (Genesis 41:46-49). Men gifted this way are often task- and detail-oriented, focusing on efficient and systematic procedures and planning.
Craftsmanship/Artistry: The gifting to envision, design, and create (Exodus 31:1-5). Men gifted this way can have a wide range of God-given talents in art, graphic design, woodworking, etc.
Hospitality: The gifting to make others feel welcome and at home (Hebrews 13:2). Men gifted this way are warm and often enjoy entertaining and will serve in welcoming-type roles at church.
Missionary: The gifting to cross cultures to share the Gospel (Acts 13:2). Men gifted this way typically leave their homeland and travel to another part of the world to spread the Word.
Boldness: The gifting to act decisively and fearlessly (Acts 4:31). Men gifted this way are not just naturally bold but will experience a specific Spirit-empowered boldness to stand strong and not back down, as the apostles did.
Physical Strength: The gifting for a supernatural feat of strength (Judges 14:6). Men gifted this way are like Samson, who had the Spirit come upon him to empower him to do amazing things.
Apologetics: The gifting to defend the faith (Luke 12:11-12). Men gifted this way know how to answer tough questions and explain Christianity logically and clearly.
Music: The gifting to glorify God through voice or instrument (1 Chronicles 25:1-31). Men gifted this way use their musical talents for worship and inspire others to worship as well.
There are other gifts in Scripture, and no doubt other giftings from God for which we might not find a specific Bible verse (such as those spiritually gifted to work with children or youth; counselors; etc.).
These gifts glorify God and bless the members of the Church in various ways, showing off God’s power and beauty and inspiring and supporting God’s people. Men gifted in these areas can glorify God by faithfully sharing what they’ve been given with those around them.
Prayer: Father, thank You for the many ways You inspire and strengthen us through these gifts. Glorify Yourself in us and through us! Amen.
Reflection: Are there any spiritual gifts listed here that resonate with you? What about gifts that aren’t on this list but you know God has blessed you with it? How do your gifts bless others in your life?
