Theme of the Week: Everything We Need for a Godly Life

Bible Verse: Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen. Ephesians 3:20-21

We have been talking this week about how Christ will give us everything we need in order to live godly lives.

Jennifer and I used to live in a basement suite early in our marriage. The owner of the house had a garage just next door. In it, he had woodworking tools and he said that I could use them any time I wanted to. I planned on making a bookshelf for Jennifer for Christmas and a rocking horse for our young daughter. Likely, I was going to need a table saw, a jigsaw and some clamps. But when I first stepped into his garage, my eyes almost popped out of my head. He had more gear than my high school workshop. It was incredible. Every tool I could imagine was there, all laid out in logical order with a built-in ventilation system. I had entered the Disneyland of woodworking shops. It was way more than I would ever need, and it was all available to me.

This is like Christ’s provision for us. He has promised that everything we need will be supplied by Him. He has infinite resources to help us live out our lives as husbands, fathers, sons, brothers, workers and friends.

How crazy would it have been for me to just take a chisel from my friend’s shop and try to do all my woodworking with that? And yet, maybe we do that with the resources that Jesus offers; we take only a tiny bit and try to rely on ourselves for the rest of it.

Instead, let’s avail ourselves more and more with all that Jesus has to offer. Let’s be filled with the Spirit, empowered and tooled up for all the challenges that come our way.
