Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose
Bible Verse: “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective, or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:8 ESV
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:8-10
Imagine living an ineffective life. There is not one man who wants his life described in this way.
The story of your life is comprised of a series of mini-stories. You are a father, husband, worker, son, friend, teammate, and neighbor. One day life makes sense, and the next day, a circumstance happens that is completely out of your control and throws your life into utter chaos.
How we respond in each of these mini-stories is what will determine if we have a fruitful or ineffective way of life.
During the recent Impactus Virtual Men’s Conference, I reflected on how we all have areas of life where we run in to fix the problem and other areas where we will run away from the challenges and hide. But there is a third way.
The third way is to press in to our true purpose in every circumstance of life – becoming more like Jesus. Do not get distracted by the multitude of things calling for your attention. Your single focus and purpose in life is to become and respond like Jesus in each of those mini-stories. This is the only way we become effective and fruitful as men.
To help us do this, God has given us a set of spiritual muscles to develop. When we build up these muscles, they will shape our actions and attitudes in every area of life. This week, we will discover how to be effective and fruitful with our lives by growing the spiritual muscles God has given to us.
