Press In – Weekly Recap

In Daily Devotional by Paul La Vigne

Theme of the Week: Pressing In

This week, we have learned what it means to press into Jesus and the fruit that is produced in our lives when we allow him to press into us and grow deeper in our relationship with him. This is the heart of Impactus.

WHAT ARE YOU PRESSING INTO?

So, what are you focusing on? What is consuming your time, your thoughts, and your attention? What are you pressing into – work, social media, hobbies, sports, Netflix? It’s true that we become what we prioritize. We also become what we listen to. If we want to live a life of purpose and godly impact, we must press into Jesus and put him first in every area of our lives. We have to set aside the distractions and spend quality time with our heavenly Father, just as Jesus did.

PRESS IN – NOT BACK. LEAVE EGYPT BEHIND

Our past can often be the biggest roadblock to our future, but our past doesn’t define us. Our identity in Christ is what defines who we truly are. When we give our lives to Christ, we become completely new creations, and our old life is gone. (2 Corinthians 5:17) God wants us to trust him when he says we are his masterpiece (Ephesians 2:10) and created us in his own image. (Genesis 1:26-27) Don’t let your past hold you back and keep you from pressing into God’s best for your life. Leave the past in the past and move forward.

PRESS IN – FOR THE LONG HAUL – IT’S A MARATHON NOT A SPRINT

A life devoted to Jesus is just that – a life or a lifetime. It’s a daily journey of pressing into God in the good times and in the rough patches. So when you grow weary and hit the wall, don’t be discouraged. God knows exactly where you’re at in your journey. He knows the next steps, and he’s waiting for you to press into him so he can run the race with you. Just remember – it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

PRESS IN – DURING THE DRY SEASONS

A life following Jesus does not mean a life free from trials. God knows exactly what we’re going through and is always way ahead of us. We may feel like we’re lost in the wilderness with no way out, but God says to trust him because he knows the way: “Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? I will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.” (Isaiah 43:19)

In the dry season where you feel like you’re wandering aimlessly in the desert, press deeper into Jesus and let him press deeper into you. He will make a way in the wilderness and rivers in the desert.

PRESS IN – TO BECOMING MORE LIKE JESUS

In order to walk in the plan God has for us and truly live as image-bearers of Jesus, we must be intentional about our spiritual growth. It’s pressing into Jesus day by day, with passion, dedication and consistency. Growth won’t happen if we are lukewarm or haphazard in our approach to God. We have to be intentional and make time for God in our busy schedule. It’s never too late to start pressing into Jesus and allowing him to press into you each and every day. It takes effort on our part, but the fruit is well worth it in the lives we impact along the way, as we grow more and more to be like Jesus.
