Theme of the Week: Spiritual Reset & Renewal

Bible Verse: Yet the news about him spread all the more, so that crowds of people came to hear him and to be healed of their sicknesses. But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed. Luke 5:15-16

Scripture Reading: Luke 5:12-16

In the book, The Power of Full Engagement, by Jim Loehr and Tony Schwartz, they talk about the importance of managing energy instead of managing time for high performance and personal renewal. I have found that thought to be very important in my work and life flow. If I am exerting more energy than I’m getting, I will run a deficit and, after a while, even go bankrupt. Maybe you know of a friend or leader that has happened to.

In Luke 5, Jesus is healing, giving, and teaching with lots of output. Imagine all the people wanting something from Jesus, and they’re not small wants either. “But Jesus often withdrew to lonely places and prayed”. Why didn’t he just keep healing and teaching? Because he was human. He knew that the strength and charge in his soul was directly connected to the Father. His output was only as strong as his input.

It’s no different for us today. John 15 talks about the fact that fruitfulness only happens if we stay connected to the true vine. We will bear much fruit if we are connected, but if disconnected, we bear nothing. Jesus is obviously the true vine, and he even goes as far to say that without him, we can do nothing.

Recharging our soul must have right routines and rhythms. How do we do that? We don’t need to look any further than what Jesus modelled for us. Want to stay fully charged? Stay fully connected! We are conduits, not sources of power – God is our source, and only he gives power!
