Risen Indeed!

In Daily Devotional by Chris Walker

Bible Passage: “‘Why do you look for the living among the dead? He is not here; he has risen!'” (Luke 24:5-6)

Scripture Reading: Luke 24:1-12; Acts 2:24; Ephesians 1:19-21

Happy Easter from Impactus!

Happy Resurrection Day, where we celebrate death defeated and the grave overwhelmed by the awesome power of the One God who is above all things, even death itself!

There is an ancient Christian tradition that comes to us from the Orthodox Church: when one believer meets another, one will greet the other with “He is risen!” and the other will respond, “He is risen indeed!”

(Pause your reading and go greet or text someone with that right now!)

Today, we mark the crucial finale of the Easter story. On the Cross, Jesus died a sinner’s death for the sake of the world He so loved (John 3:16). His blood cancels out our sinfulness in God’s eyes and restores us as “perfect” in Heaven’s accounts, not by our efforts but by His great mercy (Hebrews 10:14; Titus 3:5).

But if it ended there, we might have forgiven sins, but we would still have a dead Savior God, and it would mean this God is weaker than the grave.

This is not possible.

God is the Author and Creator of life, Lord over life and death and grave, and since Jesus was the Son of God, and subject to nothing but the Father Himself (and certainly not subject to anything so earthly as death), therefore “God raised Him from the dead, freeing Him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on Him!” (Acts 2:24, emphasis added).

It is reason for worship, to say the least!

But more than just the amazing blessings of mercy and eternal life that are granted to us because of what Jesus did, there is even more.

Men honor sacrifice, and we honor Jesus’ death. Men respect victory, and we rejoice in the resurrection of the tomb.

But men also value strength, and we are promised that, while we live here on earth, we get to share in the same resurrection strength that God displayed when He raised Jesus from the dead (Ephesians 1:19-21).

That divine strength is not just for the empty tomb, but is present for men to draw from as we charge after Jesus and live out our faithful lives in this world.

This week, we will explore that mighty strength, displayed in the resurrection, and what it means for men today.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, I rejoice in Your resurrection today! May the same power that raised You from the dead fill me today, and may I glorify You with reverence and with awe. Amen.

Reflection: Make sure you take time today to praise and worship Christ for what He has done in His death and resurrection!
