Saved Body & Soul

In Daily Devotional by Chris Walker

Bible Passage: “But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,  he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy.” (Titus 3:4-5)

Scripture Reading: Revelation 7:10

This week, we have taken a look at the great salvation that God has brought to His people.

We know that God has “saved” us, but we wanted to dig deeper into what exactly He has saved us from.

We have discovered that, through Jesus, His death, and His resurrection, God has saved us from many things in multiple ways, in this life and in the life to come.

We have been saved from our own sin, our active rebellion against the God who created us and loves us—our selfishness, pride, and unholy words and actions that damage ourselves and others. Jesus has brought us total forgiveness and complete exoneration, and His Spirit empowers us to live God’s way.

We have been saved from our separation from God. In the Cross, God was reconciling the world back to Himself, and as we live and rejoice in that, we also share that message of reconciliation with the world.

We have been saved from Satan’s power. Jesus took on our enemy for us and defeated him completely, stripping him of his authority and rightfully claiming all authority for Himself. We can never thank Him enough for this!

We have been saved from a life of lifelessness. Jesus came to deliver the “fullness of life” to His people, and we get to walk in that life by the power of the Holy Spirit starting right now, here on earth, with all the blessings and benefits that go with it.

And we have been saved from death itself. The grave no longer has the final say; a doctor does not get to proclaim your hour of death. When this world fades from our view, we are invited into a much fuller, richer, perfect world in the life to come. Jesus has done this for us.

And so, with endless praise and gratitude, we give glory to the God who has done it all!

We live as men who are thankful, and we live as men who are devoted to the One who has saved us, body and soul.

And we echo the song of Heaven, loudly proclaimed by those around the throne:

“Salvation belongs to our God, who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb!” (Revelation 7:10)

Prayer: Lord, thank You for this week and all that Your Word has taught! Help us live as men who belong to the One who has saved us in every way, body and soul. Amen.

Reflection: What is your biggest takeaway from this week? How will it impact your spiritual walk moving forward?
