Take Your Stand

In Daily Devotional by Darryl Dash

Bible Verse: “For this reason take up the full armor of God, so that you may be able to resist in the evil day, and having prepared everything, to take your stand.” (Ephesians 6:13)

Scripture Reading: Ephesians 6:10-20

We’re at war!

Men, you are engaged in a supernatural spiritual battle with the forces of evil arrayed against you.

The good news: we can stand.

Paul says that if we strengthen ourselves in God and take up His armor, we will be able to stand against the enemy of our souls. After all, Satan is a defeated enemy.

As we rely on God’s strength and use the resources He’s given us, we can hold our position and refuse to be moved.

Paul never freaks out as he describes the real spiritual battle raging around us, and we don’t have to freak out, either. We should take our enemy seriously, but we don’t need to be scared, because God has given us everything we need to succeed.

Resist the devil (1 Peter 5:9). He will flee from you (James 4:7). Put on God’s armor. Cling to Him and allow Him to strengthen you. Never fight alone. You generally don’t find soldiers at war alone, and we shouldn’t try to engage in spiritual warfare alone, either.

In the end, Satan was never a match for God. He was defeated by Jesus at the Cross (Colossians 2:15). Jesus allows us to play a role in his defeat (Luke 10:18). One day, he will be banished completely (Revelation 20:10).

Until then, take your stand with the resources God has given you.

Prayer: Lord, thank You for giving me the resources I need to take my stand in the battle. Help me to use them to their full advantage. Amen.

Reflection: Read Ephesians 6:10-20—what piece of armor do you most need today?
