Bible Passage: “Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone.” (1 Corinthians 12:4-6 ESV)
Scripture Reading: 1 Corinthians 12:4-11 ESV; Romans 12:3-8
Brothers, I used to confuse the “fruit” of the Spirit with the “gifts” of the Spirit.
The best explanation I can offer is that the “fruit” of the Spirit represents God’s divine character as it is manifested through us. In contrast, the “gifts” of the Spirit represent God’s divine power working through us. Today, we will focus on the gifts of the Spirit.
According to Scripture, the gifts of the Spirit include wisdom, knowledge, faith, healing, the working of miracles, prophecy, the ability to distinguish between spirits, speaking in tongues, and interpreting tongues, amongst others.
Part of the adventure of following Christ involves discovering your spiritual gifts, using them for God’s Kingdom, and witnessing their impact.
Each gift has a purpose, and no gift is better than any other. Each one is crucial to encouraging other believers and glorifying God. The Holy Spirit empowers us to use our gifts, which have their best results when building up the body of Christ. Through our unique spiritual gifts, each believer serves a special purpose in the church. We should make serving God and His body of believers our primary objective when we use spiritual gifts.
It is necessary to acknowledge that all spiritual gifts originate from the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit determines who receives each gift, and in turn, we are responsible for using our gifts to love others and glorify Almighty God.
Prayer: Father, thank You for our spiritual gifts. May Your Spirit guide us in using these gifts for Your honor alone. Allow us to properly appreciate the differences that bring us together as a spiritual family. Amen.
Reflection: Do you know your spiritual gifts? How are you using your spiritual gift(s) to honor your Father and bless others?
