Bible Passage: “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”(John 8:32 NIV)
Scripture Reading: John 8:31-32; John 14:6-7
Have you ever broken a bone?
Years ago, our daughter was playing on the swingset in the backyard when she fell from a height of 18 inches and started to cry. Being the loving father that I am, I sauntered over, telling her that she was okay.
But soon after I picked her up, I realized that her arm was not looking right and took her to the hospital, where an X-ray confirmed that she had broken her wrist.
It’s interesting how it works. I sensed something was wrong, but it was by seeing the actual wound on the inside that I could then make decisions for her healing.
We know that makes sense when it comes to physical healing.
But what about emotional/inner healing?
The stuff that even an X-ray can’t see?
When it comes to that type of hurt, we need different tools to find healing.
There is a phrase often used in our culture that says, “The truth will set you free.” It’s taken from John 8:32, where, when questioned about His identity, Jesus tells the people that if they know His teaching and are His disciples, they will know the truth, and the truth will set them free.
And if you connect that to John 14:6, where Jesus says He is the truth, then it seems as though Jesus is saying that if we know Him, He will set us free.
But just how does that work?
Many men carry inner pain in their lives, much of it from when they were young. How can men then know His truth, work through our pain, and find inner healing?
This week, we will look at several types of pain that men carry and how Jesus speaks into them and brings healing.
I do want to make it clear that this series should not replace professional support, such as doctors, counselors, or pastoral care. My aim is simply to help you know that Jesus sees you and wants to speak His truth and bring healing to your life.
The question for you is: which truth do you need to wrestle with the most this week?
Because it might just be the one you find the deepest healing in.
Prayer: Jesus, this week, as we embark on a journey of inner healing, help us, as men, to be willing to listen and hear what You have for us. Amen.
Reflection: What is one concern you have about pursuing inner healing? Pray about it and see what Jesus says to you.
