Bible Passage: “The Lord is my shepherd…” (Psalm 23:1)
Scripture Reading: Psalm 23:1-6
This week, we have looked at what the Bible says about doubt.
How do we leave this conversation? What can we take away and apply to our lives?
Biblically, David was a man who wrestled with doubt. Just read through the Psalms and take note of all the questions and struggles he presented to God.
I’d like to summarize each day of this week’s devotional, then look at what I call “David’s Do’s and Don’ts of Doubt.”
Here goes:
Sunday: Don’t talk to the serpent. Go to the Father.
Monday: Ask your questions. You are not alone.
Tuesday: Follow Him in your doubts and see His evidence.
Wednesday: Don’t look for answers in the complex. Find them in the simple.
Thursday: Jesus is your advocate and is big enough to handle your sin.
Friday: The opposite of doubt is peace, and He is with you, mighty warrior.
Or, reframed in David’s words from today’s passage (Psalm 23:1-6):
Sunday: The Lord is my shepherd and knows what’s best for me.
Monday: In Him I lack nothing.
Tuesday: He guides me along the right paths for His Name’s sake.
Wednesday: He leads me to green pastures and quiet waters.
Thursday: His goodness and love will follow you all the days of your life.
Friday: We will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
The bottom line for David was that God could handle his doubts and, in return, give him His presence and peace.
You might think that God sees you differently from David…but I doubt it.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You that Your Word does not hide David’s doubts, questions, and fears. And thank You that Your Word also speaks to mine and gives me the same peace David had from You. Amen.
Reflection: What is the one doubt that Jesus has talked to you about the most this week? Let that build more trust with Him and what He wants to do in your life.
