God’s Specialty

In Daily Devotional by Tim Bergmann

Bible Passage: “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.” (1 Peter 4:10 NIV)

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 2:1-7

Every garage has a focus.

As I mentioned at the beginning of this week, my dad was a plumber, and the focus of his garage was plumbing.

If someone wanted to tune their piano, my dad’s garage was not the place to go.

If someone wanted to fix their hot tub, a printer’s shop would not be ideal.

If someone wanted to replace their carburetor, a dentist’s office would be a poor place to start.

You go to the garage that specializes in the work you want done.

So, what does our God’s garage specialize in?

When He was here on earth, living in the form of a man, Jesus showed us very clearly what He was about:

“For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45 NLT).

This is the specialty of His garage. He serves.

  • He serves the sinner by forgiving them.
  • He serves the lost by saving them.
  • He serves the poor by providing for them.
  • He serves the lost by guiding them.
  • He serves the lonely by loving them.

And, in order to carry out His desires, He has stocked His garage with all the best tools for carrying out His mission. When He rescued you, He did it so that you could be used by Him to accomplish His desires for the world.

Everyone born of God, every son of God, is meant for the precise role of servanthood.

No matter your position in your company, your real purpose is to serve everyone around you.

No matter your social or financial status in your neighborhood, the real purpose of your being there is to serve everyone around you.

No matter how big your family is or whether you are single, married, divorced, or widowed, the real purpose for you being there is to serve everyone around you.

Surrender yourself fully to the will of God and let Him bless the world through you.

Prayer: Dear Lord, help me never forget that I am here to serve. This world, my life, is not all about me; it is about how you want to use me to help and bless others. Thank You for modeling that while You were here on earth. Thank You for serving me so grandly and consistently. I want to be like You. Amen.

Reflection: How has God used others to serve and bless you? How has God used you to serve and bless others? Where is He inviting you to serve today?
