Bible Passage: “And we all, who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NIV)
Scripture Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:17-20
Over the past week, we’ve talked a lot about peace.
We’ve seen that peace begins with Jesus. We’ve discovered that God wants to transform our hearts before He changes our relationships. We’ve been challenged to surrender our reactions, our words, our homes, and our conflicts to the leadership of Christ.
But none of that was the ultimate destination; the ultimate destination has always been to become more like Jesus.
When Jesus called peacemakers “children of God,” He wasn’t saying that making peace earns us a place in God’s family. Through faith in Christ, we are already His sons.
Rather, Jesus was describing what our lives begin to look like as we grow to resemble our Heavenly Father. Just as children often reflect the character and mannerisms of their parents, followers of Christ should increasingly reflect His character in the way they live.
That kind of transformation doesn’t happen overnight. It’s the slow, faithful work of the Holy Spirit as we choose, day after day, to surrender ourselves to Jesus. Some days you’ll get it right. Other days you’ll lose your patience, speak too quickly, or discover there’s still work for God to do in your heart.
Don’t lose heart.
The goal has never been perfection, but faithfulness.
Every conversation is another opportunity to speak with grace. Every disagreement is another opportunity to choose humility. Every difficult relationship is another opportunity to demonstrate the forgiveness you’ve already received through Christ.
That’s what peacemakers do.
Not because they’re naturally calm or exceptionally patient, but because they’re following the Prince of Peace.
As you step into next week, don’t leave these devotional thoughts behind. Carry them with you. Ask the Holy Spirit each morning to make you a little more like Jesus than you were yesterday.
And as He does, you’ll discover that the greatest impact you can have isn’t winning every argument or proving every point; it’s living a life that quietly, consistently points people to Christ.
Prayer: Father, thank You for walking with me throughout this week. Thank You for showing me that true peace isn’t something I create but something I receive through Jesus. Continue shaping me into the man You’ve called me to be. When I’m tempted to react in anger, remind me of Christ’s gentleness. When pride rises in my heart, teach me humility. When relationships become difficult, give me the courage to pursue peace. Above all, help me become more like Jesus so that the people around me experience His peace through my life. Amen.
Reflection: As you look back over this week, where have you seen God shaping your heart regarding His peace and being a courageous peacemaker in this world?
