Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose
Bible Verse: “For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective, or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.” 2 Peter 1:8 ESV

Every man wants his life to be effective, but in order to get there requires pressing in to the right things. More specifically, we need to press in to the way of Jesus. Becoming like Jesus is your highest purpose in life, and it is the only way to ensure your life is truly effective and fruitful.
You may feel like you can’t measure up to this calling – that you don’t have what it takes. But as we learned earlier this week:
Peter has a different story for you. Everything you need to press into your true purpose of becoming more like Jesus is already in you. You already have what it takes to overcome that sin or build an effective and fruitful life. None of this exists because of you – it exists because of Jesus Christ in you.
You will have all kinds of things trying to get your attention in life. These things will call for you to put all your energy into making them a reality. But if becoming more like Jesus is your real purpose, then you need to make every effort to do this.
This is not a passing-by kind of lifestyle. You must be all in and consumed with the effort it is going to take to become the man God designed you to be.
You are given spiritual muscles to make every effort to build. By continuing to build your muscles of goodness, knowledge, self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly affection, and love – you will help to ensure you are building an effective and fruitful life for yourself as a man.
Press in to this life. It’s here you will find your true purpose and calling as a man.
