Boxed in by Betrayal

Theme of the Week: Boxed In

Bible Verse: “Do not repay evil with evil or insult with insult. On the contrary, repay evil with blessing, because to this you were called so that you may inherit a blessing.” 1 Peter 3:9

Scripture Reading: Psalms 55:1-23

Abandonment, vicious gossip, and the spreading of lies. There’s nothing quite as painful as betrayal. It can be devastating when someone we trusted pulls the rug out from under us. It rocks us to the core and can shatter our solid foundation. And when we get boxed in by betrayal, we’re left wondering: How could this happen?

Betrayal makes us angry. It makes us want to get even so they will suffer the pain they inflicted on us. Jesus knows what betrayal feels like, and He suffered to the point of death for it. But even in that extreme betrayal from Judas, Jesus was gracious and kind.

If you have been betrayed by someone close to you, and most of us have or will, cry out to Jesus. Even if you’re angry, let Him know how you’re feeling. He gets you. He’s been there. He can handle your anger. Opening up to Jesus and grieving your betrayal will start the healing process. He loves you, pursues you, and intimately understands the reality of betrayal. He will help you get out of the box of betrayal, for He is always trustworthy.

Question: Is there a betrayal that you still need to grieve and express to God in prayer? How has God or a Godly friend helped you get through betrayal?
