Theme of the Week: Boxed In
Bible Verse: “Where, O death, is your victory? Where, O death, is your sting?” 1 Corinthians 15:55
Scripture Reading: Luke 24:1-12
All this week, we’ve looked back on how life can make us feel boxed in. Sometimes it’s our pride holding us back and distancing us from God. In those times, it’s important to remember it’s only by the mercy of God through Jesus Christ that we have any opportunity to experience forgiveness and freedom. He pardons our sin and imparts the righteousness of Christ to us.
Other times it’s our own perceptions. But just like he did with Zacchaeus, Jesus knows the real you and sees you as a cherished son or daughter of God. He’s able to look past your past and see you in all your potential, not everyone else’s perceptions. If you are living under other people’s perceptions, expectations, or labels, God wants to offer you something radically different. He wants you to experience a new life and identity in Christ. He loves you so much that He invites you to come to His house and party for eternity.
Betrayal can also hold us down. Yet Jesus gets you. He’s been there. He can handle your anger. Opening up to Jesus and grieving your betrayal will start the healing process. He loves you, pursues you, and intimately understands the reality of betrayal. He will help you get out of the box of betrayal, for He is always trustworthy.
Finally, death itself can make us feel boxed in, trapped. But as we continue into the Easter season, it’s our joy to remember death isn’t the end of the story. The resurrection of Jesus Christ ranks as history’s most revolutionary event. One cannot deny that He shook the world in His day. But His life just as dramatically has shaped the course of history in our time. The resurrection is the final proof that Jesus Christ is who He claimed to be.
When you feel boxed in, remember the promises of God, the presence of God, and the resurrection of Jesus that offers us help and hope for the present and the future.
