Bible Passage: “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” (Romans 3:23 ESV)
Scripture Reading: Romans 3:9-26
You don’t have to look far to see that something’s wrong with the world.
Scroll through social media, turn on your TV, or just see the people around you, and it’s evident. Wars, abuse, injustice, addiction, broken families, and more—it’s all indicative of a deeper problem.
And it’s not just “out there.” It’s in all of us.
The Bible is clear: all of mankind has fallen. We’re not basically good people who mess up from time to time. We’re sinners, both born by nature and by choice. We’ve turned from God and tried to selfishly run life on our own terms.
That’s the root of every struggle we face as men—anger, lust, pride, laziness, greed, and the like. Sin is not just what we do. It’s who we are apart from Christ.
This information isn’t meant to crush you. Instead, it’s meant to wake you up. You can’t fix yourself. You can’t “man up” your way out of sin.
You need a Saviour.
When you understand the seriousness of your sin, it humbles you. It tears down the lie that you can earn your way to God. It prepares your heart to receive grace. That’s where real change begins.
This doctrine also levels the playing field. No man is better than another. We all fall short. We all “miss the mark” of what God requires to make it into Heaven when we die. Whether you’re a blue-collar worker, a business guru, or a church leader, you’re just as in need of mercy.
That sobering truth keeps us honest, keeps us dependent on God, and keeps us from becoming self-righteous.
God’s grace becomes amazing only when you understand how far you’ve fallen. And once you grasp that, you’re ready to see just how good the Gospel really is.
Prayer: Father, I confess that I am a sinner needing Your mercy. I can’t save myself. Thank You for showing me the truth about my heart. Lead me to live humbly and depend on Your grace every day. Amen.
Reflection: In what area of your life do you need to humble yourself and seek God’s mercy today?
