Christ’s Power To Obey

In Daily Devotional by Tim Bergmann

Theme of the Week: Everything We Need for a Godly Life

Bible Verse: And his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength he exerted when he raised Christ from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly realms. Ephesians 1:19-20

I recently discovered that one of my friends owns a Lamborghini. Now, I have always been a bit enamored by the Lambo. I like the way it looks and the way it sounds. It has always been one of those almost mystical vehicles because it’s hard to get up close to one.

When he heard of my captivation with that car, he surprised me with an offer. He said, “Why don’t you come and pick it up and take it for the afternoon?” Well, he didn’t have to ask me twice. Actually, he did, because I could hardly believe what I was hearing the first time.

I drove my 2012 Ford Focus over to his place to pick it up. He took me out for a spin first so that I could learn a few things about the vehicle. Man, that thing went 0-160 faster than the time it takes for my Focus to get into second gear. There was just soo much power!

I spent an exhilarating afternoon cruising in the Lambo.

I thought about my spiritual walk and how Christ has made so much power available to me to live the Christian life. He has offered me Lambo horsepower, but I often settle for my own Ford Focus power. And then I wonder why I am filled with failure and disappointment and feeble ministry.

The same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to work through us if we will surrender ourselves to Jesus and rely on Him alone. He wants you to experience victory in your marriage and your family. He wants to display His glorious power through your life at your job and in your community.

Let’s not live on our own strength. Let’s surrender to the power of Christ and experience all the triumph that He wants us to.
