Theme of the Week: Being Good Stewards of Creation
Bible Verse: “You care for the land and water it; you enrich it abundantly. The streams of God are filled with water to provide the people with grain, for so you have ordained it. You drench its furrows and level its ridges; you soften it with showers and bless its crops. You crown the year with your bounty, and your carts overflow with abundance. The grasslands of the wilderness overflow; the hills are clothed with gladness. We have talked already this week about the goodness of God seen in creation, that God owns everything, and we are to be good stewards of His creation. Yesterday we referenced how we cannot be beneficiaries of God’s goodness without being good stewards. Today’s topic progresses to the next thing we must know. He created everything, owns everything and today we will think about how He sustains everything.
I love how God is never at a distance in anything, like a disinterested owner. For those who have decided to make Jesus Lord and Savior of their lives, He has a personal relationship with them, and nothing is closer than that. But He is also very interested in all His creation, so much so that He has decided to remain involved to sustain, support, and hold all creation together. It makes me think of the song “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands”. He’s so big and powerful that the world fits in His hands – That’s impressive. And just like we are reminded in the Psalms today, He’s in control of it all.
Why is this important? I think for me, it’s so comforting to know that with all that’s going on in our world – with all the BIG problems – He’s in control of it all. So, when I think of my small world and the big problems I face, I can remind myself if He can take care of the world and universe, He can certainly take care of me. He’s also got me in His Hands.
