God’s Promise of His Presence

In Daily Devotional by C. H. Spurgeon

Scripture Reading: Daniel 3:8-30

As we have seen already, God gives us his promises, and he saves us. Because of that, he will also commit to being with us as his way of fulfilling everything he has promised. There is no bridge. We must go through the waters and feel the rush of the rivers.

The presence of God in the flood is better than a ferryboat. We must be tried, but we will be triumphant. For the Lord himself, who is mightier than many waters, will be with us.

Even though it sometimes feels as if God is absent, the Lord will surely be with us in difficulties and dangers. The sorrows of life may rise to extraordinary heights, but the Lord is equal to every occasion.

The enemies of God can put in our way dangers of their own making, namely, persecutions and cruel mocking. These are like a burning, fiery furnace. What then? We will walk through the fires. Because God is with us, we will not be burned. Indeed, not even the smell of fire will remain upon us (Dan. 3:27).

Oh, the wonderful security of the heaven-born and heaven-bound pilgrim! Floods cannot drown him, nor fires burn him.

Your presence, oh, Lord, is the protection of your saints from the varied dangers of the road. Look on me; in faith I commit myself to you, and my spirit enters into rest.
