Theme of the Week: Grace
Bible Verse: And you also were included in Christ when you heard the message of truth, the gospel of your salvation. When you believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory. Ephesians 1:13-14 NLT
Scripture Reading: Acts 1:6-11
Restoration of a relationship is the goal of grace. Giving someone what they don’t deserve so the relationship can be restored.
Grace is an unmerited gift. It is something we cannot earn. By its very definition, it cannot be deserved. Grace is always and only the providence of the person giving it. It cannot be compelled. The gift of grace from Jesus is a right relationship with our heavenly Father. We are doomed without Jesus’s gift because it gives us something we cannot discover, make, or earn for ourselves.
In this way, the grace Jesus offers is more than just an undeserved gift; it is also an invitation. This invitation can only be accepted through faith. This faith is the assurance that what we cannot see actually exists (see Hebrews 11:1). It is an invitation to be reconciled to the Father, to live connected to Him and, through the Spirit, for Him.
The Spirit is another gift we receive from God. Jesus made a promise after His resurrection, right before He was about to leave earth and head home to be with His Father. He said that He would send us the Holy Spirit to be with us and to guide us.
The Holy Spirit is our gift of assurance from our Father. The presence and work of the Spirit in our lives is proof that we have accepted the grace that Jesus offered.
Prayer: Thank you, Father, for the gift of your Spirit that guides us and helps us follow and obey you.
Reflection: God’s Spirit is the assurance of our eternal inheritance, be encouraged and stand up tall. Your name is written in the lamb’s book of life!
