Bible Passage: “Yet Jerusalem says, ‘The Lord has deserted us; the Lord has forgotten us.’ Never! Can a mother forget her nursing child? Can she feel no love for the child she has borne? But even if that were possible, I would not forget you! See, I have written your name on the palms of my hands.” (Isaiah 49:14-16 NLT)
Scripture Reading: Psalm 139:1-24
Have you ever lent something from your garage to a neighbor?
Maybe it was a hedge trimmer, a torque wrench, or a cordless drill.
You were probably glad to do it; sharing is a great activity. But when you lent it out, it wasn’t like that tool didn’t exist anymore. It was still on your mind.
And your thoughts on it might have increased when the neighbor kept it longer than he should have.
Or maybe you still recall an instance of someone borrowing something from you and you never seeing it again.
Being aware and mindful of what’s in your garage is a useful and normal thing. It keeps you from buying the same thing again and again (though I have more #2 Robertson bits than I know what to do with)!
I have asked guys if they had a certain tool, and they usually think for a second before they answer. In that short interval of time, they are actually going through their entire shop contents in their minds to see if that tool is there.
I know because I do the same thing. Most guys know what they have, and they usually know exactly where it is.
If that is how we operate as men with our tools, how much more thoughtful is the infinite, all-knowing Creator of the universe. We are way more valuable to Him than any tool in our garage is to us. He didn’t just pick us up at the local human outlet store. No, He fashioned us with His own hands.
He knows exactly what is in His shop.
He knows exactly who you are, where you are, and why you are!
Don’t, for a second, think you are forgotten, abandoned, or disregarded. He can’t do that to you. You are always on His mind.
Like the Psalmist says, “How precious to me are your thoughts, God! How vast is the sum of them. Were I to count them, they would outnumber the grains of sand—when I awake, I am still with you” (Psalm 139:17-18 NIV).
Prayer: Dear Lord, I am amazed that I am on Your mind. You are aware of all that I am going through. You see all my successes, all my failures, all my strengths, all my weaknesses. Nothing is hidden from Your sight. There is nowhere I could go that You wouldn’t be aware of me. Thank You for Your attention and care. Help me to remember that I am not forgotten by You. Amen.
Reflection: Are you feeling forgotten by God these days? The devil would love for you to believe that to be true. Why do you feel forgotten? Have you shared that with a trusted brother? Let them in on your struggle. Let them pray with you and for you. Don’t give in to the schemes of the devil.
