Theme of the Week: A Life of Purpose
Bible Verse: “His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence.” 2 Peter 1:3 ESV
Scripture Reading: 2 Peter 1:1-4
The first time I ever visited a gym, I thought I was going to die after 5 minutes on the treadmill. I was not in good shape and decided that I was never going back. Fortunately, a few people kept encouraging me, and I discovered things about myself I never knew to be true.
The same thing is true for you. If you are like many other men, you may not believe you have what it takes to be the man God wants you to be. Maybe there is one sin that seems to keep showing up in your life, and you have given up any hope of being able to defeat that sin. Maybe you look at other Christian men and have convinced yourself you will never be like them.
But Peter has a different story for you. Everything you need to press into your true purpose of becoming more like Jesus is already in you. You already have what it takes to overcome that sin or build an effective and fruitful life.
None of this exists because of you – it exists because of Jesus Christ in you.
If you have put your faith in Jesus, then the God of the universe lives in you. He has given you his presence and his promises – all designed to help you share in his very nature (2 Peter 1:4). You don’t ever need to compare yourself to other Christian men because you have a faith of equal standing as every other Christian man – including Peter himself (2 Peter 1:1).
You may sometimes feel like you will never measure up as a godly man, but God wants you to know everything you need is already in you. So, let’s get started building those spiritual muscles.
