Learning What To Do

In Daily Devotional by Jacques Van Dyk

Bible Verse: The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction. Proverbs 1:7

Scripture Reading: Matthew 25:14–30

Today, we are exploring ways to educate ourselves about caring for Creation.

One of the most effective ways to begin learning is to understand human impact on the planet and then share that knowledge with others. There are several credible online resources that you can refer to which provide useful tips on how individuals can take action to reduce their environmental impact.

It’s essential to understand that every small action counts in environmental stewardship. We can all make a difference, no matter how little the step may seem.

While the problems may seem overwhelming, we can all take steps toward reducing our energy and water consumption. For instance, we can choose to use public transportation or a bicycle instead of driving a car, switch to LED light bulbs, run the dishwasher less frequently, and layer up our clothing to reduce the heat in our homes.

I am a coffee lover and don’t drink enough water. However, I recently started using a technology-enabled reusable water bottle with a small button on the top. When I press the button, little green lights go around in a circle, and the water is purified, killing germs. It’s a fantastic experience for a tech nerd like me, and I am also doing my part to help by avoiding disposable cups and bottles.

We can all take steps to be better stewards of God’s Creation.

Men, I understand there is much information regarding environmental conservation to absorb, and it can be hard to know who to listen to. However, I encourage you to make this a family project and work together towards this cause.

Let us find ways to be responsible caretakers of God’s Creation and do our part in preserving it for future generations.

Prayer: Father, help us be faithful stewards of Your Creation by finding small ways to reduce our energy and water use. Let this opportunity bring us together as brothers and families. Amen.

Reflection: Pick three ideas from the lists above where you can be better stewards of the environment and put them into practice in your home.
