Nothing Can Stop God

Theme of the Week: The One Who Will Never Fail

Bible Verse: “I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” John 16:33, NLT

Scripture Reading: John 16:29-33

The arrival of Jesus, as we have been celebrating this month, was extremely significant. God was revealing himself perfectly through the life and teachings of Jesus. Prophecies from hundreds of years earlier were now only 33 years away from being fulfilled, and the opportunity for all mankind to know God personally would be soon given through Jesus’ death and resurrection.

This beautiful story of God restoring a broken relationship with mankind dates back to page number one of your Bibles. It displays to us God’s patience, grace, and love, but also his power. You see, when God puts a plan in place, it can never be stopped. We know this because the Bible is chock-full of stories of our unstoppable God.

The disciples must have been experiencing some uncertainty regarding the future as Jesus describes a time without him there. Then Jesus even has the audacity to say that he did this so they would have peace. And how exactly does that give peace? Good question. Perhaps it’s because he wanted to reassure them that this was all part of the plan.

Then he goes a step further and says that, even though the disciples will experience trouble after he goes away, they shouldn’t think trouble isn’t part of the plan. Trouble isn’t an indication that God’s plan has been stopped – trouble is part of the plan.

Aren’t you glad that uncertainty, troubles, pandemics, politicians, parliaments, stock markets, judicial courts, education systems, social media, news outlets (and anything else you can think of) cannot stop God’s plans and purposes? We know that he is faithful to finish what he started.

As 2020 comes to an end, know that God is for us, he is with us, and he cannot fail!
