Bible Passage: “Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Because of his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” (1 Peter 1:3 CSB)
Scripture Reading: 1 Peter 1:3-9
The birth of Jesus was a remarkable moment, but it is only the first chapter of the story.
Jesus was born to die. While every human who is born will ultimately die, only one was born to die for the sins of the entire world.
When Jesus died on the Cross and rose from the dead three days later, He secured your eternal hope.
The Christian faith is a celebration of hope and life. The Son of God was born, He rose from the dead, and He came to give you new life. In His mercy, God gives you a new birth into a living hope. The resurrection of Jesus from the dead is the assurance that death does not get the final say.
Jesus does.
The same God who promised the Messiah would come has also promised that He will come again. When Jesus returns, you will receive the most remarkable inheritance any human can receive. When someone in your family gives you an inheritance, the money or family heirlooms you receive will eventually lose their value and fade away.
But the inheritance kept in Heaven for you is “imperishable, undefiled, and unfading” (1 Peter 3:4).
That’s a remarkable promise.
Jesus secures your hope.
As part of the Christmas story, Simeon and Anna have taught us this week how to live in light of a secure hope. Let’s be men who live with a wholehearted dedication to trust, serve, and love God, because we are confident of what is still to come.
Even in the most difficult times of life, you can lift your mind and heart to keep persevering in hope. Jesus has won, and no disappointment or challenge on earth can take away the hope that is yours because of Him.
Prayer: Father, clear away every false hope I have and every fear of losing hope in life. Help me to really see and experience the living hope that Jesus has secured for me. Amen.
Reflection: How can the living hope secured by Jesus make a difference in the way you approach the challenges you are facing today?
