The Hope of Glory

In Daily Devotional by Kirk Giles

Bible Passage: “Christ in you, the hope of glory.” (Colossians 1:27 CSB)

Scripture Reading: Colossians 1:24-29; Romans 8:19-21

Several years ago, I had the opportunity to take my family on a road trip through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. When you see the mountains from a distance, it gives you a hint of what is waiting for you, and you can feel your excitement level rising.

But that taste of the mountains doesn’t compare to the experience waiting for you and me.

Colossians 1:27 has one of the most remarkable claims of the Bible:

“Christ in you, the hope of glory.”

If you have put your faith in Jesus, He is not only a historical figure who lived two thousand years ago. He lives in you today.

Every time you see someone live and love the way Jesus would, you are experiencing the reality of Christ in them. However, what you are seeing is also only a glimpse of what is yet to come. When you see Jesus in another person, and when others see Jesus in you, we are experiencing the hope of something even better.

One day, you and I will experience the restoration of all Creation—including ourselves. Everything that feels like it is falling apart today will be made new. No more suffering or pain, no more conflict or wars. Eternal joy, love, and pleasures will be ours to experience.

If Christ lives in you, you are an ambassador of this hope of glory. The more you surrender to Christ and allow Him to lead every part of your life, the more you will give your family, friends, work, church, and community a hope of the glory that is still to come.

They say a baby changes everything. If you’re a dad, you know that’s true in your own life.

However, two thousand years ago, a baby really did change everything. Jesus, the Son of God, was born, and He now lives in you.

Hope is real because this baby born in Bethlehem came to save you and the world we live in.

Prayer: Father, fill me so much with the presence of Jesus that my life gives everyone else around me hope. Amen.

Reflection: How can the reality of Christ in you give people a taste of the hope of glory waiting for us?
