Peace and God’s Plan

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Bible Verse: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

Bible Reading: Proverbs 3:5-6

As we covered in yesterday’s devotional, God’s character is faithful and true. His promises are precious and very great for you—why wouldn’t His plans for you be just as great?

Now, I’m assuming something here: that you do believe God has a plan for you. I hope you know that, and I hope you are open to His leading.

Have you ever heard God referred to as the Alpha and the Omega (Revelation 1:8; 21:6; 22:13)? It means He is the beginning and the end. No one was before Him, and no one will be after Him. He is the only One who could ever fully know what’s best for you.

I think some people who are Christians have wrongly assumed that just because you have a relationship with Jesus, you won’t have any trouble, any difficulties, or any problems. Well, if Jesus is our example, what have you noticed about His life? I think you would agree that His life wasn’t without interruptions, troubles, or complications. So, why would we expect any different? (John 15:20)

That’s why I love our theme verse today: “And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” I like the word “all,” meaning all-encompassing. In the good, bad, and ugly times in life, if you love God and are called by God (which every Christian is— another devotional for another time!), He’s going to work it for your good!

God knows the beginning and the end, so our short lives here on earth (in light of eternity—[James 4:14])—are not overwhelming for Him in His overall timeline. Whatever comes our way, He’s going to work it for good. This is where we find peace: in Him, in His presence, in His promises and in His plans. If you are lacking peace, you now know how to get it!

Reflection: Where have you put more trust in your plan for your life instead of God’s plan for your life? What’s one step of faith that you can make that will increase your trust in God’s plan for your life?

Prayer: Dear God, thank You for the peace that comes from knowing that, whatever I face in my life, I can trust that You will work it together for my good. Where I am trusting too much in myself, help me discern how to get out of that mindset and focus more on You and Your plans for me.
