Servants Are Loyal

In Daily Devotional by Paul Fraser

Theme of the Week: Godly Men Are Servants

Bible Verse: “Simon Peter answered him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.’” John 6:66-68

Scripture Reading: John 6:66-69, Matthew 4:18-22

In today’s passage, we read about how many of those listening to the hard teachings of Jesus chose to leave. Jesus asked his disciples, “Are you not leaving also?” Simon Peter didn’t always get it right when it came to question and answer time with Jesus, but this time he did.

“Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life, and we have believed, and have come to know, that you are the Holy One of God.” John 6:68-69

Yes, Peter denied knowing Jesus during the crucifixion, but after Jesus restored him and further into Acts, Peter was incredibly loyal to Jesus, even until Peter’s own death.

Godly servants are loyal. Not perfect by any standard – but loyal. Loyalty is such a powerful characteristic, especially when you have it in a relationship. It strengthens the relationship every time.

Godly servants are loyal. Not perfect by any standard – but loyal.

I’m so humbled to think about how loyal God has been to me. Maybe feel that way too? I have made so many mistakes and have hurt God with my actions. Yet, He remains perfectly loyal to me.

When I realize how gracious God has been to me, and how much He loves me, how can I not do my best to be loyal to Him?

When I realize how gracious God has been to me, and how much He loves me, how can I not do my best to be loyal to Him?

God is not forcing us to be in relationship with Him. It’s our choice to be His servants and to invite Him to lead our lives. How can we express our loyalty to God in light of His goodness towards us? What does loyalty to God look like?

I hope you can take some time to think through these questions. Loyalty is not something we talk a lot about, but I think is worth giving some time to dig into what that could mean for you, as a godly servant.
