Servants Understand Lordship

Theme of the Week: Godly Men Are Servants

Bible Verse: “…just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” Matthew 20:28

Scripture Reading: Matthew 20:25-28, Philippians 2:6-8

What comes to mind when you think of the word servant? Is it something you aspire to be, or is it something you tend to avoid?

Jesus was clear about what He thought when it came to serving. He should have been the One being served, yet He clearly taught that He was here to serve, not to be served.

Jesus lays out a clear path forward for us as men: We’d better position ourselves as servants unless we are greater than our Lord. He must be our example.

Jesus lays out a clear path forward for us as men: We’d better position ourselves as servants unless we are greater than our Lord. He must be our example.

The theme this week is Godly Men Are Servants. Obviously, we serve Jesus, so that means we adhere to His teachings and try to imitate how He lived. It means we voluntarily make Him Lord of our lives.

Sometimes we think Jesus’ teachings are suggestions and not commandments. But if He is Lord, we do what He asks with simple obedience. He’s in charge!

That might not sit with you very well – and if I’m honest it doesn’t with me either – but I must remind myself that Jesus always wants what’s best for me.

I am not giving the direction of my life to an evil leader, but rather, to the One who died for me and loves me with unconditional love.

Giving away control of your life to Jesus requires trust – trust that He knows what’s best and what’s ahead. It’s not a one-time decision, but rather, a daily choice to trust in the Lordship of Jesus in my life.

I pray that you remind yourself that He is for you and not against you. Ask Him to lead and guide you today – You’ll be glad you did!
