Theme of the Week: Bless Your Wife
Bible Verse: “So they are no longer two but one. Therefore, what God has joined together, let no one separate.” Matthew 19:6
On my wedding day, I made a promise to live with and love Sharol and only Sharol all the days of my life. And to clarify that commitment, I promised to be there no matter what – in sickness and in health, for richer or poorer.
A great and lasting marriage is built on a commitment like that. It provides the secure environment that allows love to grow fully and freely without fear and reservation. It is also a commitment that has to be renewed and re-communicated throughout our lives in order to bless our wives.
Sharol and I were watching a movie awhile back and at one point the man left his wife. For some reason, I was not conscious of, I turned to Sharol and looked her in the eyes and said “I will never do that”. And she began to cry. I was surprised. We were in a good place in our relationship. There was no reason for her to feel vulnerable that I was aware of.
When we talked about it, I got this huge window into just how important it was to her to know – to know always and without a doubt – that I was still fully committed to her in every way and for every day ahead.
Your wife longs for that security too. I wonder, does she feel it? Here’s a great question for you to ask her: On a scale of 1 to 10, how safe and secure do you feel in our marriage? Whatever her answer, the follow up question is equally good: How can I increase that?
Guys, we bless our wives and help them grow into their capacity to love when we strengthen our commitment and build up their feeling of security in our love. Give her a great blessing today. Tell her and show her that she is still your one and only … and always will be.
