The Christian Character Recap

In Daily Devotional by Kyvenz Amédée

Theme of the Week: What is a Christian? The Christian Character

Bible Verse: “I am sure of this, that he who started a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.” Philippians 1:6 CSB

Scripture Reading: Philippians 1: 3 -11

Throughout this past week, we have taken a deeper look at some of the Beatitudes:

Blessed are the poor in spirit
Jesus is seeking to enrich us by bringing us closer to God and giving us free and unlimited access to the kingdom of heaven. By humbly recognizing our need for God, we can all be made spiritually rich and live the abundant life he promises.

Blessed are those who mourn
There are many things that can cause us to mourn on this earth. But there is a mourning that can shift our spiritual life and determine our eternity: it is the mourning of repentance. Jesus invites us to mourn over our separation from God so that the distance between him and us will be no more.

Blessed are the meek
Men are often thought of as being violent in different ways. And recent statistics on domestic violence around the world are reason to share the good news that it is the meek that will inherit the earth, not the physically or psychologically violent. How encouraging to know that Jesus is inviting us to inherit a promise and that the best way to get ahead in life with God is through humility.

Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness
When we let injustice poison our hearts in such a way that we become hardened, bitter, and unable to love our enemies, then we become helpless in the face of the darkness surrounding us. We have become part of the problem, even if we are well-meaning. But as we cry out to Jesus for his righteousness, then there can be hope again!

Blessed are the pure in heart
Having a pure heart gives us access to God, and it is through relationships that the pureness of our heart is measured. Jesus is inviting us to receive a new heart that will be pleasing to the Father, for he wants to one day meet us face-to-face.
