The Gospel of Restoration

In Daily Devotional by Scott Roberts

Bible Passage: “He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.” (Revelation 21:4 ESV)

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:18-21; Revelation 21:1-5

From the first page of the Bible to the last, God has been telling one big story—a story of creation, fall, redemption, and restoration through Jesus.

The Gospel is not only about the forgiveness of individuals, but also about the renewal of everything that sin has broken. What began in the Garden of Eden with the Fall of Adam and Eve will be fulfilled and restored in the Kingdom.

Through Jesus, the curse of sin has been defeated, but the restoration is still unfolding.

We live in what theologians call the “already but not yet.” The Kingdom has already come through Christ’s death and resurrection, but it is not yet fully visible until He returns.

Until that day, we as the Church will patiently and faithfully spread the message of the Gospel to a dying world.

Revelation 21 paints a beautiful picture of the breathtaking finale: a New Heaven and a New Earth, where God personally dwells with His people; where death, pain, and sorrow are forever gone; and where all that is sad comes to an end.

The Gospel that began with God entering our fallen world when Jesus Christ came in the flesh ends with us entering His new and restored world. The One who said, “It is finished,” on the Cross will one day triumphantly proclaim, “Behold, I am making all things new” (Revelation 21:5).

This truth brings together everything we have seen throughout this past week:

  • The Gospel reveals the heart of God because He longs to dwell with His people.
  • It brings His Kingdom to earth because He intends to rule in righteousness.
  • It forgives and justifies us so that we can stand forgiven in His presence.
  • It conquers death so that we can live forever.
  • It fills us with the Holy Spirit so we can live with power and holiness.
  • And it transforms us to look like Jesus so that His holy character begins to show even now in the lives of those who belong to Him.

Lastly, we see that the Gospel restores.

Yes! At the end of it all, the Gospel—the wonderful “Good News”—will restore everything that sin has destroyed. There’ll be no more pain and no more tears. No more distance between God and His people. Every promise will be kept, every wound will be healed, and every believer will see the glory of God face to face!

That is the blessed hope that men of God carry. That is the victorious story we live for.

Prayer: Father, thank You that the Gospel does not end with me. It ends with You making all things new. Lord Jesus, please help me live with eternal hope, long for Your Kingdom, and stay faithful until the day You return. Come quickly, Lord Jesus! Amen.

Reflection: How does the promise of full restoration change the way you live and hope today?
