The Gospel of Victory

In Daily Devotional by Scott Roberts

Bible Passage: “Jesus said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live.’” (John 11:25 ESV)

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:11

Death has always been humanity’s greatest enemy.

It doesn’t matter how rich, strong, or healthy a man is; it eventually comes for everyone.

Every culture in history has tried to make peace with it or make sense of it. People try to fight it with diet, exercise, vitamins, or technology.

But no matter what, it will affect every single person who has ever lived.

And apart from Christ, death is a terrifying reminder of our helplessness and sin.

When Jesus came, He certainly spoke comforting words about life after death, and claimed that He Himself was Life.

And then He backed up those claims by defeating death itself.

His resurrection wasn’t a metaphor or a legend. It wasn’t figurative or merely “spiritual” in some vague way.

His rising from the dead was a literal, physical, historical event that changed everything.

When Jesus rose from the grave, He proved that sin’s curse had been broken and that Satan’s power had been shattered. The empty tomb stands as the unshakable evidence that God has the ultimate power and that He keeps His promises.

In John 11:25, Jesus declared, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me, though he die, yet shall he live.”

Notice that He didn’t say He gives resurrection and life…He is resurrection and life!

To belong to Him is to share in His wonderful victory. The same Spirit that raised Jesus from the dead now dwells in every believer (Romans 8:11).

For Christians, death is no longer an inescapable, inevitable wall we “crash” into. It is now just the doorway into eternal life with Christ.

Our bodies may fail, but our hope in the afterlife never will. Because of the Gospel, we grieve differently. We no longer see the grave as the end, but as the beginning of forever with the One who conquered it.

This truth changes how we live today. We don’t need to fear the future or cling desperately to worldly, temporary things. Every moment is a chance to live with joy and hope in the power of the resurrection.

The Cross paid our debt, and the empty tomb guarantees our destiny.

Prayer: Father, thank You that Your Son has defeated death and given me eternal life. Help me walk in the confidence and peace of His resurrection. When fear and doubt creep in, remind me that my future is secure because the tomb is empty. Amen.

Reflection: How would your daily perspective change if you truly lived as someone who has already conquered death through Christ?
