Theme of the Week: The Holy Spirit

Bible Verse: But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Galatians 5:22-23

Scripture Reading: Galatians 5:13 – 26

The Spirit brings order out of chaos. In the beginning, hovering over the formlessness and void of the new universe, the Spirit provided shelter for the new creation, like a mother hen covering and protecting her precious chicks. To a nation needing guidance and deliverance, the Spirit moved on certain people to empower them with the wisdom and strength necessary to carry out God’s plan. To a world that had just been offered salvation through the life and work of Jesus, God offers the gift of the Spirit to help us grow more and more like Jesus.

It’s amazing to think that the same Spirit who helped to orchestrate the creation of the universe and the events of salvation history is now at work in the followers of Jesus to bring out their growth. Talk about going from big to little! From the grand scale of creation to the minuscule scale of yours and my character, the Spirit is at work. His task for you and me is to transform us to be more like Jesus. What does that look like? Like a beautiful orchard: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, and self-control.

Is the Spirit producing His fruit in you?

Prayer: God, thank you for all your Spirit does in the world and in my life. Thank you that He is working to transform me to be more and more like Jesus. Help me to see the fruit of His work in me.

Reflection: What fruit of the Spirit is he growing in you right now? Which fruits have you seen growing in your life?
