Bible Verse: Yet you, Lord, are our Father.
We are the clay, you are the potter;
we are all the work of your hand. Isaiah 64:8
Scripture Reading: John 15:1-5
When it comes to our identity, we have many voices giving their opinions. Our own. Our family. Friends. Strangers. Our past. And many others.
But only one voice should truly matter – Jesus’.
So today, let’s listen to Who He says He is and who He says we are.
He is the Potter, and we are the clay – Isaiah 64:8.
He is the Vine, and we are the branch – John 15:1-5.
He is the Good Shepherd, and we are the sheep – John 10:11-14.
He is the Rabbi, and we are the fishers of men – Matthew 4 / Luke 5.
He is God, and we are jars of clay carrying His treasure – 2 Corinthians 4:1-7.
In looking at these statements, these truths, I see one constant thread in them all:
He is close to us.
The Potter forms the clay with his hands.
The Vine feeds the branch.
The Shepherd lives among the sheep.
The Rabbi leads while the disciple follows so closely that they get covered in the dust He kicks up.
The treasure is inside the jar.
It’s like God is saying that our identity is wrapped in Him. That we are to be so close to Him that there is no room for any other voices to define who we are.
So, today, let His voice speak to your heart. Let His voice tell you Who He is. And let His voice tell you who you are in Him.
Prayer: Jesus, thank You that You are closer than I could ever imagine. Help me walk daily with you so that it is Your voice that I let define me. Amen.
Reflection: Look at the list you made at the beginning of the week. In what areas have you gained a new perspective? Thank Jesus for all that He has shown you.
