Trust and Allegiance

Theme of the Week: Living Out the Victory

Bible Verse: “Who is it that overcomes the world except the one who believes that Jesus is the Son of God?” 1 John 5:4-5 ESV

Scripture Reading: 1 John 5:4-5; Isaiah 26:3-4; Psalm 33:20-22; Romans 8:29-30

Do you believe in Ford? Chrysler? GM? Tesla? Honda? The evidence will likely be found in the choice you make when purchasing a new vehicle. You will invest your money, trust, and safety to the vehicle you believe in. Believing in Ford does not mean you don’t believe GM vehicles exist.

Many people hold faith at that level of acknowledgement. “I believe in Jesus”, they will say. But it’s acknowledgement and not allegiance. The Bible words for faith and believing are about trust, allegiance and loyalty. Faith goes beyond accepting the fact that Jesus existed. It means you will put your trust in Jesus and make decisions based on who Jesus is and what he says.

1 John 5:4-5 tells us that faith is a vital part of overcoming and living a victorious life. The world represents the entire system of values and beliefs that are opposed to God’s truth and rulership. Overcoming that system comes from first believing in Jesus, who he is and what he has done for us at the cross. And second, it comes from allying ourselves with the Kingdom of God.

When we place our loyalty in Jesus, we are empowered to overcome the world’s way of believing and living. We live out of another Kingdom, the Kingdom of God.

Let your faith be more than just a thought. Let it be your allegiance to serve Jesus with all that you are. This is how we overcome.
