What Makes the Bible Unique

Theme of the Week: The God Who Still Speaks

Bible Verse: “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16-17

Scripture Reading: 2 Timothy 3:10-17

Two qualities make the Bible unique from every other form of communication.

First, its origin. “All Scripture is breathed out by God…” (3:16). Human authors wrote the words of the Bible, but God saw to it that their words were what he wanted to communi-cate. He’s behind every word. What’s written in the Bible is exactly what God wanted writ-ten, exactly what he wanted us to know. No other book is like that!

Second, Its value. The Bible is “profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work” (3:16-17). It teaches us what we need to know. It corrects us when we go wrong, and it trains us in the right way to live.

In other words, Scripture contains the very words of God designed to actually change how we live.

We all want our lives to count and to know how to live well in this challenging world. God’s told us how in Scripture. We don’t just read it for information. We read it to hear his voice, and so that we can be changed at the deepest level of our lives.
