Who Are You?

In Daily Devotional by Marc Brûlé

Theme of the Week: Living Out the Victory

Bible Verse: Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come. 2 Corinthians 5:17 ESV

Scripture Reading: Romans 8:37; 2 Corinthians 5:17; Matthew 4:3-5

If you’ve ever called your bank to access your account by phone, you will likely have had questions asked of you, “… so we can verify your identity.”

Imagine saying something like, “I’m really good with numbers and accounting, so you should give me access.” That would be ludicrous. Access to your account is not based on your ability but on your identity.

In the same way, access to victorious living is not based on your ability but on your identity as a redeemed child of God. The Bible declares that we are more than conquerors. This speaks, not of ability but of identity. Overcomers are what we are because of Jesus.

The starting point of living a victorious life is knowing and believing who you are in Christ. The power to overcome flows out of that reality.

When the devil tempted Jesus, he baited him with, “If you are the son of God…” (Matthew 4:3, 5) This is because the devil is much more worried about identity than he is about ability. Once our identity is ‘verified’, the power of God is the source of the ability to live victoriously.

In Christ you are a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17). In Christ you are more than a conqueror. Live in that identity every day. It’s the starting point of victory.
